Sales Representatives are key for businesses because they use their skills to obtain new customers and maintain old customers who pay for the products and services provided  by a business.

Basic Skills and Qualifications
To pursue a career in sales, you should have or develop the following skills:
  • Good communication skills (active listening, verbal and written communication).
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills with warm qualities like; friendliness, politeness, persistence and patience.
  • Ability to Self-motivate: at times, customers can be rude and disappointing, you must be able to persist with a positive attitude.

Where you can work as a Sales Representative
You can work as a Sales Representative for business organizations who offer products and services to individuals, government or other businesses.

You can work as an in-house staff on the payroll of the organization, or with a sales agency or as a freelancer (like in the case of affiliate marketers) who get paid a commission per sale made.

How much you can earn per year
The earnings of sales Representatives vary a lot because most organizations pay sales Representatives a commission which is a percentage from each sale made.

This makes the earning potential of sales Representatives very flexible with enormous potential for earning hug sums from large volumes of sales or from that one mega sale. 

On an average, Sales Representatives working in-house can earn a salary from N40,000 to 500,000 per month apart from commissions.

As a sales representative on commission, how much you earn depends  on the quality and / or quantity of commissions you make on sales.
